ACTIVITIES 

The students at St. John's are offered a variety of activities that help them grow academically, physically, and spiritually.

 

Math Team (grades 5-7)

Students meet once a month to complete a variety of math activities and brain teasers.   Students participate annually in the Gibault Math Competition.  Mrs. Niemeier is the team organizer/facilitator.

Band/Instrument instructions (grades 3-8)

Music lessons are offered to students in grades 3-8 through Palmer Music.  Parents pay for these weekly lessons.

St. Vincent de Paul Society (grades 5-8)

The St. Vincent de Paul Society seeks to serve the needs of others through works of charity and prayer.    

Children's Choir (grades 2-8)

Children's Choir sings once a month at the 10:00 a.m. Sunday Mass during the school year.   Mrs. Vogt directs the choir along with musicians Dave Hollinshead, Robin Hentis, and Brad Trost.  Student musicians for the 2011 - 2012 school year are  Paul Mueller,  Brian Deterding, Devin Schrieber, and Catherine Deterding.

DARE (grade 6)

Over a 10 week course, Deputy Mike Hoelscher presents a weekly lesson on drugs and the dangers of using them.

Speech Team (grades 5-8)

The speech team is coached by Mary Mueller .  They participate in Beginners, Bi-County, and Diocesan Meets throughout the year.

Mass Servers (grades 4-8)

Boys and girls in grades 4-8 are welcome to serve mass during the weekday and weekend liturgies.

Language Arts Contest (grades K-8)

In February students may participate in the Red Bud Elementary School's Language Arts Contest by creating a picture or story book.  From these participants, three students are selected to go to the Young Author's Conference in the spring. 

Bi-County Art Contest (grades 5-8)

The annual Bi-County Art Contest is held one evening in April at a local school.  Students participate in still life, sculpting, cartoon drawing, portrait  drawing, and illustrative drawing. Ms. Hill  is the organizer/facilitator.

 

Science Fair (grades 4-8)

The Science Fair is held for grades 4-8.  Viewing of the projects is open to the public on the evening of the event.  Mrs. Baum is the organizer/facilitator.

Sports available to our students include boys and girls volleyball, basketball, and track,  baseball, and softball. Mrs. Trost is our Athletic Director.
